How to make and use Hoodoo candles

There are many forms of Hoodoo candles , but perhaps the best known in Hoodoo and most used would be seven days and novenas .

Novenas are used by ones of catholic faith , but are also used in Hoodoo . They are colored , most often glass encased , with Saint and prayer prints , If bought as Hoodoo candles for conjure work , often scented , fixed , dressed and herbs might be added .

Seven days candles are candles divided into seven partition and each is burned daily for specific wish , or for the same wish . Therefore they can be single colored or each partition can be another color for another wish ( for ex. Green – money , white – blessings , red love etc. )

Of course there are more candle types commonly used like Lux perpetua candles , paper encased , with on paper print of Virgin Mary , or Saints and text that says : Lux perpetua , or perpetual , eternal light in English . Most commonly white , and used for healing , purification and “curadismo” work.

Oh and another important group are figural candle where shapes and colors work as symbolic and magickal guides for spell .
If You take a white human candle and anoint it with healing oil , say a prayer for the health , or psalm for healing , You are preforming a cndle spell for healing .
If however You would take a black divorce candle and sprinkle it with powder made of black cat's and black dog's hair , graveyard dirt , guinea pepper, while saying Your affirmations or words of power You would cause man and his wife to divorce .

Like in other magickal traditions there are tea candles , votives , taper candles , pillar candles etc.

How to make and use a seven day candle ?

Unless You have a mold, the easiest way is to take a large taper or better yet pillar candle, and divide it in 7 sections using 7 pins . Pin heads should be correspondent to colors that are representing Your intentions or wishes . Burn a partition of a candle ( until the pin falls out ) each day praying for Your wishes to come true .
Use seven pins , pining seventh to the very top or end of the candle , even though six needles would still divide candle in seven parts, You must use 7 pins .
Place Your wish beneath the candle , but You must prepare it first . Write a name on a piece of paper , fold it for 90deegrees , than write Your wish seven times crossing Your name . If there are more wishes You will obviously write each one once .
Burn for seven days .

So how could You use candles ?

White candles are also used in hoodoo for jinx breaking and uncrossing and purples for developing spiritual powers .Black ones are also used for reversal of magick , best combined with herbs such as agrimony , oak , nettle , blackberry leafs and crab shell powder , but more on that on another occasion.
Orange candles can also be used for control over the situation although that is implied in list given above . In such a case it should be dressed wit St. John the conqueror root , while the paper with the description is placed underneath the overturned saucer . A purple candle could be used in for same purpose .
Black figural candle can be dressed with crossing or bend over oil , sprinkled with graveyard dirt and pepper and some sulphur while pins are pinned into all vital parts focusing on causing pain to the person , the leftovers would be burned in graveyard .
Now that is a nasty curse , but remember no one is above the Karma , Threefold law , or Divine Justice , call them what You like .

Dressing and making Hoodoo candles

There are two main ways ( means ) of making a Hoodoo candle

1.Using molds
Ok If You want to make Hoodoo candles , get a mold or one of them candle making kits .
Mix the wax of appropriate color with appropriate herbs and oils , and there You go . Bless the candle with prayers and or psalms and You are set to go .

2. Dressing Or You can use made candles and dress them with oils and powders and maybe add some herbs dried and crushed too .

Here are few examples :

1. Unhexing candle : White pillar or taper candle . Anoint with oil Uncrossing oil ( recipe bellow) and with powder of wood betony .
Burn reciting appropriate Psalm or Psalms ( such as 37th )

2. Domination candle : Take the big purple candle . Anoint it with St. John the Conqueror root oil (radix Ipomoeae Jalapae ). Sprinkle some saltpeter powdered over candle If Your target is dangerous ( saltpeter is used to protect and disarm enemies , also to purify and unjinx , in floorwashes ).
On a piece of paper write the name of person You wish to dominate , fold 90d degrees , than write Your name crossing Theirs , fold two more times in same manner , hold in hand saying :

I have power over You , You shall obey me , and You shall compel to me , as Moses divided the seas , so shall You do all I say !

Place the paper under the candle . Burn each day , until candle is burned.

3. Healing candle . Take a blue or white figural candle and anoint with healing oil made from equal parts of chamomile , lavender , lemon rind . Or use any healing oil .
Dress the candle and pray for healing of the sick person ( Psalm 6th for example , particularly if sickness is difficult and persistent ). Burn for three days .

4. Healing depression , obtain dark blue candle . Carve the name and state of person suffering from depression or being suicidal , melancholic etc. Anoint with healing and peace oil , or sprinkle with crushed White rose petal and lemon rinds .
Read the Psalm 13th 9 times , or one time each nine days . Bury the wax that remains .
