Mental Disease

I watched a show today where little girls were being plagued by hallucinations, voices and the like. As early as age 6 one of the girls attempted suicide because the voices told her to.
Voices, hallucinations, parinoia, ect are fairly common symptoms of Schizophrenia.

It occured to me....what if it's not a matter of " your brain isn't working properly " but more an issue of " you are extremely open and have beings messing with you for no other reason than they can"?

I have come accross people on public transportation who would have full blown conversations with what seemed like no one but themselves and always wondered if maybe, just maybe, it wasn't themselves who they were conversing with.

Now society has deemed them crazy and in need of help ( those who have violent tendencies I can't argue against them needing help ). However those who speak in tounge or to their respected diety as a member of their religious organization are deemed special or a medium of communication and praised.

I wonder the thoughts of this community on the subject of such things. Are they simply crazy and suffer from things their minds create, or is it possible that these people are haunted by beings who are in it for some sort of gain?
